The Daemos Race
The Daemos are a race of largely non-humanoid, monstrous creatures that come from another dimension entirely. Normally, the dimensions between worlds are sealed and no passage is allowed between them. But the Daemos have found a way to break through that barrier. For longer than many modern-day Daemos can remember, they have been moving from one world to the next, scavenging and destroying until nothing remains. Their current target is Earth of what they call the Human Realm, and that has been their target for nearly 6000 years. The Daemos could be found on the Human Realm in large numbers from 2900BC to 2200BC, during the Great and Secret War between Daemos and Marked. But they were driven back and only a handful remain on Earth from that time. Several more have slipped through the cracks between worlds over the years, but only the weaker of the Daemos can find a rip that is large enough to allow them and their full power through.
A Daemos' physical appearance and unique abilities (some supernatural in nature, others purely physical or mental) are different for each subspecies. There is very little to tie the Daemos race together besides their temperments and goals. However, they are only very rarely humanoid in appearance and can never pass as simply human. Their appearances are what a human child might call a monster, though the specifics vary from subspecies to subspecies.
However, when a Daemos moves from the Daemos Realm and into the Human Realm, they eventually discover the natural glamour that hides their true form, allowing them to pass unnoticed through the Human Realm. It is a trait that is shared by all Daemos and passed along to the Half-Breeds they created.
The only other ability shared by all Daemos is their ability to sense the Marked. It is unknown what connects the Daemos and the Marked, but a powerful Daemos can pin-point a Marked's location from miles away.
All Daemos share an inherently cruel and evil nature. There is no such thing as a good Daemos, or a Daemos who can honestly befriend any individual outside of their own race -- and even friendships among the Daemos are corrupted by violence and cruelty. While all Daemos can be considered evil, the different races all share their own quirks. Some are more violent and bloodthirsty, while others may enjoy mind games and slow destruction of their intended victims that much more.
The Four Daemos Lords
The Four Daemos Lords are the rulers of the Daemos Realm and are the ones who created the Daemos. Their own origin is unknown as is their goal in driving the Daemos from world to world to destroy and conquer. But the Daemos race wants nothing more and so they enjoy the destruction that they bring.
While the Daemos do not have any kind of official leadership or system of government, the Daemos Lords are the undisputed rulers. They generally stay out of day-to-day dealings with the other Daemos and only get involved in the destruction of the worlds they break in to. They are often thought of as deities by the other Daemos.
History
For longer than most current Daemos can remember, they have been moving from world to world, destroying each one they come across before opening a way to the next and closing the doorway behind them. Daemos have conquered and destroyed thousands of worlds before they stumbled across the Human Realm, and never before have they met such resistance.
They first began breaking through the barrier between the Daemos Realm and the Human Realm around 3300B.C. For several hundred years, their numbers rose sharply in the Human Realm as a great and secret war broke out between Daemos and Marked, with the Daemos' unintentional Half-Breed children choosing their own sides.
Goals
Goals of the individual Daemos can vary greatly, and may be dictated by their race or culture. But as a whole, the Daemos want three things; to open up portals, rip down the barrier between worlds, and the destruction of the Marked. Their ultimate goal is to rip apart the planet and then move on to the next dimension to repeat the process. Collecting human or Half-Breed souls as an energy source -- most often in an artifact known as a Soul Jar -- is an important process in some of the few methods there are to open up portals between the Human and Daemos Realms.
Many Daemos are also instructed to gather intelligence on the Marked and Half-Breeds, as well as find any potential allies or tools for their cause.
Add a Daemos
Are you interested in creating a new race of Daemos to add to the world of Marked? There is plenty of room for expansion and we welcome any and all ideas that you might have. Remember, the number of Daemos races are essentially limitless, though you are far more likely to find lesser Daemos infiltrating the barrier between worlds in recent days. If you would like to add a new Daemos race to our database, simply Create a New Page and select the appropriate template.
